In the latest Section news update there is an article that perhaps needs our attention. There is an active petition for rule making that deals with local laws governing our use of mobile equipment. The petition RM-11833 submitted by K4KWH asks the FCC to clarify their jurisdiction on this matter. I have personally seen such restrictions in Texas where it is illegal to use any communications device in a school zone. Other government bodies have passed similar restrictions on our use of mobile/handheld equipment.
Obviously such laws serve to curtail or severely restrict our public service mission. I have written the FCC supporting K4KWH regarding this matter. Perhaps our membership would also care to write. Time is short and I believe the comment period closes this month. Could we place this on the website(s)?
Here is a link to K4KWH’s letter and I will attach mine as a .pdf.
